If you’ve looked at the back of a Behringer WING, you’ve probably noticed the StageConnect port and wondered what it’s for. StageConnect is one of the most useful – and underutilized – features of the WING ecosystem, giving you a simple way to add inputs, outputs, personal monitoring, and computer connectivity over a single XLR cable.
In this guide, I’ll explain what Behringer WING StageConnect is, the cable requirements, and break down every device that works with it – including the brand new SC line just announced at NAMM 2026.
What Is StageConnect?
StageConnect is a digital audio protocol that Behringer released alongside the WING. It sends up to 32 channels in total of uncompressed audio bidirectionally over a standard 3-pin XLR cable.
Key specs:
- 32 channels total (any combination of inputs + outputs)
- 24-bit / 48 kHz uncompressed audio
- Power over cable (18 W from WING – enough for one device)
- 40 m (131 ft) maximum cable length (80 m (262 ft) with SC-RE extender)
- 0.4 ms latency (faster than AES50’s 0.8 ms)
StageConnect gives WING Compact and WING Rack users a way to expand beyond their 8 physical XLR outputs without buying a full AES50 stage box. But even full-size WING owners benefit from the flexibility for computer recording, personal monitoring, and outboard gear.
Cable Requirements
StageConnect uses 3-pin XLR connectors, but you need a data-grade cable with 110 ohm impedance – the same spec used for DMX lighting and AES/EBU digital audio. Standard microphone cables may work for short distances, but for reliable performance, use proper 110 ohm data cables. I can typically hook up a normal audio XLR 25-50 ft cable in my studio for testing, but to really ensure operability, go with the 110 ohm cable.
The 40 m limit applies to the total chain length from the WING to the last device – not per cable segment. If you daisy-chain multiple devices, all cable lengths combined must stay under 40 m.
NEW Behringer SC-RE StageConnect Range Extender:
At NAMM 2026, Behringer released a StageConnect Range Extender called the Behringer SC-RE which will extend the 40 m range to be up to 80 m in length! More details to come on this unit when I get one in my studio for testing! But what I have learned about the unit is that it is powered over StageConnect and can double the overall distance for your StageConnect run. Only one Behringer SC-RE is allowed in the StageConnect system, so you can’t put two of these and extend more.

NEW: Behringer SC Line (Announced NAMM 2026)
Also at NAMM 2026, Behringer soft launched a completely new StageConnect product line. These SC devices bring significant upgrades over the existing Klark Teknik DN4816 series including MIDI & potentially expanded preamp control.

What’s New in the SC Line
Most of this is possible to change as the models are not physically in my hands. All of the info that I have on these is from conversations with a few friends at Behringer and the images from the TV in the booth.
MIDI Integration: All three I/O units (SC88, SC16-O, SC16-I) include MIDI ports – a huge upgrade from the DN4816 line. The SC-U USB interface can transmit MIDI from your computer down StageConnect. I predict we’ll see WING firmware updates that take advantage of this MIDI connectivity in the future.
Expanded Preamp Control: The new SC line is rumored to have expanded preamp gain control for inputs, moving beyond the line-level-only limitation of the DN4816 series. More details to come as Behringer releases specifications.
Behringer SC88: 8 Inputs / 8 Outputs + MIDI
The SC88 offers 8 combo jack XLR inputs and 8 XLR outputs, plus MIDI connectivity. This is the new version of the DN4888, ideal for outboard gear integration or moderate I/O expansion.
Channel usage: 16 total (8 in + 8 out)
Behringer SC16-O: 16 XLR Outputs + MIDI
The SC16-O provides 16 XLR outputs with MIDI ports. This is similar to the DN4816-O – your solution for expanding outputs on WING Compact or WING Rack setups.
Channel usage: 16 outputs
Behringer SC16-I: 16 XLR Inputs + MIDI
The SC16-I delivers 16 combo jack XLR inputs with MIDI connectivity. This is similar to the DN4816-I for adding line-level inputs to your StageConnect chain.
Channel usage: 16 inputs
Behringer SC-U: USB-C Interface + MIDI

The Behringer SC-U USB interface with Audio and MIDI over USB-C
The SC-U is the updated USB interface, offering the same 32-channel bidirectional functionality as the DN4816-U but with USB-C connectivity and MIDI support. MIDI from your computer can now transmit down StageConnect to other devices in the chain.
Channel usage: Up to 32 channels (configurable)
Behringer SC-RE: Range Extender
The SC-RE Range Extender doubles the maximum StageConnect distance from 40 m to 80 m when using a 110 ohm data cable. This opens up StageConnect for larger venues and longer cable runs that previously required AES50.
Klark Teknik DN4816 Line (Current)
The existing Klark Teknik DN4816 series remains available and works great with WING. These are rack-mountable units with StageConnect HOST and CLIENT ports for daisy-chaining.
DN4816-O: 16 XLR Outputs
Adds 16 line-level XLR outputs. Perfect for WING Compact/Rack users who need more outputs for monitors and IEM systems. Add two and you max out StageConnect at 32 outputs.
DN4816–I: 16 Line-Level Inputs
Provides 16 combo jack inputs at line level only – no preamps. Use this for keyboard rigs, wireless receivers, or playback devices that already output line level.
DN4816-U: 32-Channel USB Interface
Your multitrack recording and virtual soundcheck solution. Send up to 32 channels from WING to your DAW, then play them back for virtual soundcheck – all over one StageConnect cable.
DN4888: 8 Inputs / 8 Outputs
The balanced option with 8 line-level inputs and 8 outputs. Ideal for integrating outboard compressors, EQs, and effects with your WING.
Behringer P24 System
The P24 personal monitoring system is one of the most powerful StageConnect applications. For a complete setup guide, check out my dedicated P24 article (coming soon).
P24: Personal Monitor Mixer
The P24 gives musicians 12 stereo channels (or 24 mono) to create their own monitor mix. Key features include three channel modes (Stereo, Mono, Dual Mono for click/cue blending), built-in talkback with footswitch support, and an aux mic input for listening to the room between songs.
P24 Hub: Distribution + Mix Returns
The P24 Hub powers up to 8 P24 units and provides 16 TRS mix outputs for routing to wireless IEM transmitters. When connected via AES50, all 8 stereo mixes return to your console for flexible output routing. Source options include StageConnect, AES50, and Ultranet (for X-Air compatibility).
Behringer Flow 4V / Flow 4VIO
The Flow series connects to WING via StageConnect while also functioning as USB interfaces and field recorders. The Flow 4VIO is particularly useful for live sound – 4 mic inputs with 32-bit preamps, 2 headphone outputs, plus USB connectivity for tracks playback. For complete details, see my guide: Behringer Flow 4V and Flow 4VIO: Everything You Need to Know
Channel usage: 8 inputs (4 local + 4 USB), 4 outputs

Summary
Behringer WING StageConnect gives you flexible I/O expansion, USB connectivity, and personal monitoring over simple XLR cables. The new SC line announced at NAMM 2026 adds MIDI integration and improved preamp control, while the existing Klark Teknik DN4816 series remains a solid choice.
Key things to remember:
- 32 channels total – inputs + outputs combined
- 110 ohm data cable – DMX or AES/EBU spec for best results
- 40 m maximum – total chain length (80 m with SC-RE)
- 0.4 ms latency – faster than AES50
